President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), with his appointment taking effect after the expiration of Professor Is-haq Oloyede’s second tenure on July 31, 2026.
Professor Aina, a renowned computer engineering scholar and systems expert, is set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history at the age of 40.
Aina brings years of experience in examination administration, digital infrastructure development, and institutional reform. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina first gained experience with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he was exposed to the operations of Nigeria’s admissions system and data management processes.
Over the past 15 years, he has worked across technology, policy, and public-sector reform, advising federal and state institutions on digital transformation, systems design, and operational efficiency. He became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering at the age of 39.
Professor Aina has also consulted for major examination bodies, including National Examinations Council and National Business and Technical Examinations Board, where he contributed to projects focused on examination integrity, ICT deployment, and process optimisation.
He is a member of several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina’s expertise and experience would strengthen JAMB’s operations and build on the reforms and achievements recorded under the outgoing registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede.
