The Executive Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Health Monitoring, Dr. Christopher Otene, has reaffirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the state.

Otene stated this on Wednesday, August 26, during a courtesy and familiarisation visit by the Health Monitoring Team to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, where he met with the Medical Director, Dr. Ekeneam Omo.

He said the visit was part of the team’s mandate to engage health institutions, identify challenges and promote collaboration for better health outcomes.

“We are here to listen, to learn, to collaborate and, where necessary, to facilitate solutions within the limits of our mandate.”

Otene noted that the administration’s M.O.R.E. Agenda provides a framework for assessing healthcare delivery, particularly in infrastructure, human capital and access to essential services.

He acknowledged developments at FMC Asaba, including but not limited to the acquisition of a more Dialysis machines, a Liquid Oxygen Plant and a 128-slice CT Scan through a Public-Private Partnership. He, however, stressed that the impact on patients remains the ultimate measure of progress.

He identified accessibility, affordability, equipment and medicine availability, emergency care, patient experience, waiting time, referrals and quality of care as areas requiring continuous attention.

Responding, Omo welcomed the team and highlighted the Centre’s achievements, reaffirming management’s commitment to improving services and patient care. He also called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders.

The Health Monitoring Team pledged continued engagement with FMC Asaba on infrastructure, equipment, manpower, emergency services and access to essential healthcare.

The visit reflects the Governor Oborevwori-led administration’s commitment to a people-centred, accountable and responsive health sector in line with the M.O.R.E. Agenda.
