The Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Ighoyota Amori, has congratulated the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, following the inauguration of major road infrastructure linking the Oko communities in Oshimili South Local Government Area.
Amori described the commissioning of the Oko–Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala Road network as a “historic intervention” that will unlock economic opportunities, improve agricultural productivity and enhance the standard of living for residents across the riverine communities.
Speaking while reacting to the development, the former senator said the project is a clear demonstration of Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to inclusive development under his administration’s MORE Agenda, which prioritizes meaningful infrastructure and economic expansion across Delta State.
“This road is more than an infrastructure project; it is a pathway to prosperity for the people of Oshimili South and surrounding communities,” Amori stated.
“Governor Oborevwori has once again demonstrated visionary leadership by addressing a long-standing challenge that has affected farmers, traders and residents in the Oko axis for decades.”
The governor today inaugurated the strategic road network, designed to connect Oko communities more effectively with Asaba and other commercial hubs within the state capital territory. For years, residents, particularly farmers struggled with poor access roads that made it difficult to transport agricultural produce to markets.
Amori noted that the new road would significantly ease movement, reduce travel time and strengthen the local economy by allowing farmers and traders to move goods more efficiently.
“Before now, many farmers in those communities had to take longer routes, sometimes passing through neighbouring states, to access markets. With this new road, agricultural produce can now move directly into Asaba and other markets, which will improve income for our rural farmers,” he said.
The Chief Adviser also commended the governor’s approval of Phase Two of the Oko Road project, valued at ₦16.9 billion, which will be handled by construction giant Setraco Nigeria Limited. According to him, the expansion further demonstrates the administration’s resolve to complete critical infrastructure that supports economic growth.
He praised the leadership of the Executive Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area, Dr. Kelvin Ezenyili, for his collaboration with the state government in ensuring development projects reach the grassroots.
Amori emphasized that infrastructure development remains a key driver of sustainable growth and social stability.
“Good roads stimulate commerce, improve security, attract investment and strengthen rural-urban integration. What we are seeing in Oshimili South today is a practical example of governance that directly touches the lives of the people,” he said.
He assured that stakeholders across Delta State remain committed to supporting Governor Oborevwori’s development vision.
“On behalf of many leaders and stakeholders in the state, I congratulate His Excellency for yet another milestone project. The people are seeing the impact of purposeful leadership, and we are confident that even greater development will continue to unfold across Delta State,” Amori added.
For residents of the Oko communities, the newly completed road network represents a long-awaited transformation, turning once difficult and isolated routes into vital corridors for trade, mobility and economic opportunity.
