Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area, Dr. Kelvin Ezenyili, has applauded the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for delivering what he described as transformational road infrastructure that will significantly boost economic activities and improve the lives of residents across the area.
The commendation followed the governor’s inauguration of the 4.8-kilometre Oko–Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala Road and other adjoining road networks in Asaba, a development widely seen as a major milestone in the state government’s drive to strengthen rural–urban connectivity.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Oborevwori said the project was part of his administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure that directly impacts the daily lives of citizens.
“This road will significantly improve transportation for farmers and residents in the Oko communities. In the past, the terrain made it extremely difficult for farmers to move their produce to markets, especially during the rainy season,” the governor said.
He recalled that farmers previously had to travel through neighbouring Anambra State to sell their produce because the poor road network made transportation nearly impossible, often forcing them to dispose of goods at very low prices. With the completion of the new road, he noted, farmers can now move their produce more efficiently to markets, increasing incomes and improving livelihoods.
To further expand the impact of the project, the governor announced the approval of Phase Two of the Oko road project valued at ₦16.9 billion, to be executed by Setraco Nigeria Limited, with an expected completion timeline of 24 months.
Reacting to the development, Oshimili South Council Chairman, Dr. Ezenyili, described the project as a historic intervention that would unlock new economic opportunities for communities within the council area.
“These roads are not just infrastructure; they are a lifeline for our communities,” Ezenyili said. “They will ease transportation, support agriculture, stimulate commerce and ultimately improve the quality of life for our people.”
He expressed profound gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for prioritizing the development of Oshimili South, noting that the council and its residents remain appreciative of the governor’s commitment to inclusive growth across Delta State.
“The people of Oshimili South are grateful to His Excellency for this impactful intervention. We assure the governor of our continued support and cooperation as his administration continues to deliver on its development agenda,” he added.
Beyond easing movement within the Oko axis, the newly completed road network is also expected to enhance connectivity to key economic corridors in the Asaba capital territory, opening up agricultural communities and strengthening trade links within and beyond Delta State.
For residents and farmers in the Oko communities, the long-awaited road represents more than asphalt and concrete; it symbolizes renewed access, opportunity and a pathway to economic prosperity.
