The Executive Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Kelvin Obi Ezenyili (PhD), on Thursday commended organizers of the Sheriff Free Medicare Project for All Deltans (SHEFMEPAD) as the humanitarian medical outreach commenced services in the area.
Ezenyili, popularly known as EKO, spoke at the official launch of the programme held at the Federal Medical Centre Asaba, where hundreds of residents gathered to receive free medical consultations, medications and surgical interventions.
The initiative, designed to provide free healthcare services across the 25 local government areas of Delta State, offers consultations, diagnosis, treatment, drugs and surgical procedures to beneficiaries at no cost. The programme is being implemented in partnership with philanthropic organisations and the state government to expand access to healthcare for vulnerable populations.
Addressing participants at the event, Ezenyili described the outreach as a life-changing intervention that would significantly ease the financial burden of healthcare on families within Oshimili South and beyond.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our people,” the chairman said. “I urge everyone here to call their neighbours, friends and family members so they can also benefit from this free medical and surgical intervention. Good health is very important for our communities.”
He expressed appreciation to the organisers for extending the initiative to Oshimili South, noting that many residents who struggle with the high cost of healthcare would now have access to quality medical attention.
The chairman also praised the development-driven leadership of Sheriff Oborevwori, stating that the governor’s policies and programmes continue to positively impact lives across the state.
According to him, the medical outreach reflects the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare and wellbeing of Deltans through people-focused initiatives.
Healthcare professionals at the event attended to a large number of residents who turned out for the programme, providing screenings, medical consultations and treatment for various ailments. Some beneficiaries were also scheduled for surgical procedures as part of the intervention.
The Sheriff Free Medicare Project for All Deltans (SHEFMEPAD) was introduced as a major healthcare intervention aimed at expanding access to medical services across Delta State and supporting the government’s broader drive toward universal health coverage.
Delta State has in recent years intensified investments in healthcare infrastructure and programmes to ensure that quality medical services are accessible to residents across urban and rural communities.
With the launch in Oshimili South, the outreach is expected to continue its statewide tour, delivering free medical services to thousands of residents in other local government areas in the coming weeks.
