A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has died after being struck and run over by an operational patrol vehicle during a coordinated simulation exercise in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital.

The incident occurred on Saturday during a “show-of-force” drill involving corps personnel. Video footage circulating on social media appears to show the patrol vehicle making a turn before pinning the officer beneath it.

Colleagues and bystanders immediately rushed to her aid, lifting the vehicle to free her before emergency responders transported her to a waiting ambulance. Despite efforts to resuscitate her, she was later pronounced dead.

NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale confirmed the fatality, describing the incident as a tragic accident. He said senior officials of the corps were en route to notify and condole with the deceased officer’s family, adding that the agency had activated its internal procedures in response to the incident.

The corps is expected to issue a detailed statement outlining the circumstances surrounding the accident and any safety measures that may be reviewed following the tragedy.

As of Saturday, the identity of the deceased officer had not been publicly disclosed.
