The 2026 Delta State Civil Service Week celebration continued on Saturday with the Civil Service Golf Classic, an 18-hole stroke play tournament held at the Ibori Golf and Country Club, Asaba, bringing together civil servants, top government officials and invited guests in a celebration of excellence, friendship and camaraderie.
The event, organised by the Office of the Head of Service, featured the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Prince Johnson Erijo.
In the Governor’s address, he described the Golf Classic as more than a sporting event, saying it reflects the core values that define the civil service.
“This event is more than a game; it is a symbol of camaraderie, discipline and excellence—values that resonate deeply with the civil service. Just like golf, public service requires focus, patience and integrity.”
Governor Oborevwori commended the organisers for fostering unity and healthy recreation among workers, expressing confidence that the tournament would further strengthen teamwork and commitment across the Delta State Civil Service.
“May this Classic inspire us to continue building a stronger, more vibrant Delta State,” the Governor stated.
He also urged participants to enjoy the competition while celebrating the dedication and invaluable contributions of civil servants to the growth and development of the state.
The Head of Service, Dr. Mrs. Mininim Oseji, who coordinated the event, said the Golf Classic forms part of activities marking the 2026 Civil Service Week and is aimed at promoting wellness, networking and stronger professional relationships among public servants.
Among dignitaries at the event were the Director-General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), Chief Patrick Ukah; former Secretary to the Delta State Government, Rt. Hon. Ovie Agas; members of the College of Permanent Secretaries, Directors, staff of various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as other invited guests.
The tournament provided participants with an opportunity to compete in a relaxed atmosphere while reinforcing the spirit of unity, discipline and service that underpins the Delta State Civil Service.
