Amori Hails Oyowe’s Re-election, Says Victory Reflects Renewed Trust, Confidence in Leadership
The Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ighoyota Amori, has described the re-election of Comrade Churchill Oyowe as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, as a strong vote of confidence

The Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ighoyota Amori, has described the re-election of Comrade Churchill Oyowe as Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, as a strong vote of confidence in his leadership and a mandate to deliver greater progress for the union.

Amori said Oyowe’s return for another three-year term demonstrated that journalists valued his consistency, credibility and record of purposeful leadership.

In a statement made available to newsmen by his Public Relations Officer, Joelson Wilson-Eboh, the Chief Adviser congratulated Oyowe on his electoral victory, noting that the renewed mandate also placed a greater responsibility on him to justify the confidence of his colleagues through impactful leadership and measurable achievements.

According to Amori, while winning an election confers the authority to lead, securing a second mandate carries deeper significance because it reflects the judgment of those who have experienced a leader’s stewardship first-hand.

“An electoral victory may confer authority, but a renewed mandate speaks to the confidence of the people in the individual entrusted with that authority. Your colleagues have once again given you the opportunity to lead, and I believe this confidence will inspire you to raise the bar of service, representation and professional excellence.

“Your re-election is both a recognition of the journey so far and an invitation to write an even more remarkable chapter in the history of the Delta State Council of the NUJ,” Amori said.

The former lawmaker, who represented Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, observed that journalism remains one of the most important pillars of a democratic society. He stressed that the strength of the profession depends significantly on the quality of leadership within its institutions.

He expressed confidence that Oyowe would leverage the experience gained during his first tenure to pursue initiatives that would improve journalists’ welfare, expand opportunities for professional growth and reinforce the relevance of the union in an increasingly dynamic media environment.

Amori particularly challenged the chairman to make his second tenure a period of tangible progress, during which members would experience the practical benefits of belonging to a strong, responsive and forward-looking professional organisation.

He maintained that the changing realities of journalism, especially the growing influence of digital communication, misinformation and emerging media technologies, demand visionary leadership capable of preparing practitioners for new opportunities and challenges.

“The media landscape is evolving rapidly, and professional unions must evolve with it. I look forward to a Delta NUJ that prioritises capacity building, protects the interests of its members and continues to set standards in ethical, courageous and development-oriented journalism,” he stated.

The Chief Adviser also urged Oyowe to unite the council after the closely contested election, emphasising that the ability to accommodate diverse opinions and build consensus remains an essential quality of enduring leadership.

He noted that electoral competition should ultimately strengthen institutions rather than create divisions, adding that the interests of journalists across the state must remain paramount, irrespective of their individual preferences during the contest.

Amori congratulated the newly elected State Working Committee members and expressed hope that they would complement the chairman’s vision with dedication, cooperation and a shared commitment to repositioning the council for greater accomplishments.

He further acknowledged the contributions of journalists to public enlightenment, democratic accountability and the advancement of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, describing the media as an indispensable partner in building an informed, peaceful and progressive Delta State.

While wishing Oyowe a productive and successful second tenure, Amori expressed optimism that the renewed leadership would leave a lasting legacy of unity, institutional strength and professional distinction within the Delta State Council of the NUJ.
