Last-Gasp Strike Hands Cameroon Narrow Friendly Win Over Nigeria
The result marks the Super Falcons’ first defeat since June 2025, though they will have an immediate opportunity to respond when both sides meet again in the second leg of the friendly next Tuesday.

A stoppage-time goal by Cameroon secured a dramatic 1–0 victory over Nigeria’s Super Falcons in an international friendly played in Yaoundé.

The match, the first in a planned double-header between two of Africa’s most dominant women’s teams, was decided by a late finish from Mbomezomo Yvana, who converted a cutback into the roof of the net to seal the win for the Cameroon women’s national team.

Nigeria’s head coach Justine Madugu handed Comfort Erhabor the starting role in goal, while Monday Gift led the attack as the 10-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions began preparations to defend their continental title.

Cameroon created the first clear opportunity, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to win possession inside the penalty area, but Erhabor produced a sharp save at close range to keep the score level.

The Super Falcons gradually grew into the contest and dominated large spells, creating several promising openings. However, poor decision-making in the final third and a lack of sharpness in front of goal prevented them from taking the lead, with multiple chances going astray.

Nigeria’s resistance was eventually broken deep into added time when Yvana struck decisively to hand Cameroon the narrow win.

The result marks the Super Falcons’ first defeat since June 2025, though they will have an immediate opportunity to respond when both sides meet again in the second leg of the friendly next Tuesday.
