The Delta State Government has said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will not be drawn into a campaign of calumny or political mudslinging ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that his administration will seek a second term on the strength of its performance and achievements.

The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, stated this on Thursday during a press briefing in Asaba, where he reacted to recent allegations and comments by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Delta Central senatorial candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

Aniagwu said rather than engaging the opposition in political attacks, Governor Oborevwori would continue to focus on delivering on his promises and implementing the administration’s MORE Agenda, stressing that the governor’s record over the past three years would provide the basis for his campaign.

“Governor Oborevwori will focus on delivering on his promises with good governance, making life much more comfortable for our people rather than joining anybody in the mud,” he said.

The commissioner said the administration was confident that Deltans would assess the governor’s performance based on the projects executed, policies implemented and the impact of government programmes across the state.

He dismissed allegations of an alleged plot to assassinate Omo-Agege, describing the claims as an attempt to divert public attention from the more important issues of governance, development and the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.

According to him, Governor Oborevwori and Omo-Agege were not direct political contestants in the 2027 elections, noting that while the governor would be seeking re-election as Governor of Delta State, Omo-Agege would be contesting for a senatorial seat.

Aniagwu also criticised Omo-Agege’s political record, accusing him of contributing to divisions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) during his time in the party. He contrasted this with what he described as Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to reconciliation, unity and the strengthening of political relationships across the state.

The commissioner maintained that the administration would remain focused on governance and delivering development to Deltans, rather than allowing political disagreements to distract it from its responsibilities.

He expressed confidence that when the time comes, the people of Delta State would make their choice based on the governor’s record, saying the administration would present its achievements to the electorate and allow Deltans to determine whether it deserved a second term.

“Let the people look at what we have done in the last three years, let them look at what we are doing and let them decide,” Aniagwu said.
